Alignment and suspension

Wheel alignment, steering and suspension repair in Calgary

If your car pulls, wanders, clunks or chews through tires, the cause is usually somewhere in here.

Quick answer

Wow Tire & Auto Repair in NE Calgary inspects and adjusts wheel alignment from $119.99 plus tax, with the final price depending on your vehicle. We also replace worn steering and suspension parts, including tie rod ends, ball joints, shocks and struts. Common signs you need us: pulling, an off-centre steering wheel, clunks or uneven tire wear.

Alignment, steering and suspension are separate systems, but they wear together. A pothole on Deerfoot in April can knock your alignment out. A worn tie rod end can make an alignment impossible to hold. A tired strut lets the tire bounce, which cups the tread and makes the whole car feel loose.

That's why we inspect the steering and suspension parts before we set any angles. We tell you what's worn and what isn't, and we quote the repair before doing it. Our shop is at 404 40 Ave NE in Greenview Industrial Park, and we work on every make and model in Calgary, gas, hybrid and electric.

Putting it off gets expensive. Misalignment and worn parts wear tires out early and put extra strain on the rest of the steering and suspension. Worn shocks and struts can also lengthen your braking distance and make the car harder to control when you need to stop quickly.

FAQ

Questions we hear a lot

Still not sure? Call 403-454-7500 and ask. It's free to ask.

How often should I get a wheel alignment?

Have it checked about once a year, and any time you put on new tires, replace steering or suspension parts, or hit a pothole or curb hard. Calgary's freeze and thaw cycles leave plenty of potholes every spring, so a yearly check is a sensible habit here. If the car starts pulling or the steering wheel sits off-centre, don't wait for the year to be up.

How much does a wheel alignment cost in Calgary?

Ours start at $119.99 plus tax. The final price depends on your vehicle, since some cars have more adjustment points than others, and seized or worn parts add time. If we find a worn part that would stop the alignment from holding, we'll show you and quote the repair before going further. Nothing gets added without your OK.

How do I know if I need an alignment or suspension work?

Pulling, an off-centre steering wheel and tires wearing on one edge usually point to alignment. Clunks over bumps, bouncing, nose dive when braking, or play in the steering wheel point to worn suspension or steering parts. Often it's both, because worn parts let the alignment drift. That's why we inspect the front end before setting any angles.

Should I get an alignment with new tires?

It's a good idea. If the old tires wore unevenly, the alignment that caused it will do the same thing to the new set, sometimes within a few thousand kilometres. An alignment when the new tires go on means they start wearing evenly from the first day. At minimum, have it checked.

Can hitting a pothole throw off my alignment?

Yes. A hard pothole or curb hit can shift the alignment angles or bend steering and suspension parts like tie rods and control arms. If the car pulls, the steering wheel is suddenly crooked, or you hear a new noise after a hit, have it checked. Catching it early saves your tires.
