What you get with a swap
We take off the set you're done with and put on the one you need. With the wheels off, we also get a look at things that are hard to judge from your driveway.
- Tread depth on both sets, so you know how many seasons each has left
- Uneven wear, which often points to an alignment or suspension problem
- Tire pressures set to the spec on your door jamb sticker
- Damage worth catching early, like sidewall cuts, bulges or a nail you didn't know about
Wheel swap or tire changeover?
If your winter tires are on their own set of rims, the swap is simple: one set of wheels comes off and the other goes on.
If you only have one set of rims, each tire has to be taken off the rim and the other tire mounted in its place. That's more work, and the price reflects it. Let us know which setup you have when you book so your quote is accurate. If you're switching back and forth every year, a second set of rims usually pays for itself over time and is easier on the tire beads.
When to book in Calgary
Fall: once daytime highs are sitting at or below 7°C, usually in October. Winter tires do their best work below that temperature, and all-seasons start losing grip.
Spring: once it's staying above 7°C, which in Calgary is often late April or May. Don't rush it. This city gets snow in May often enough, and one February chinook isn't spring. Leaving winter tires on through summer heat wears them out fast, though, so don't leave it too late either.

Questions we hear a lot
Still not sure? Call 403-454-7500 and ask. It's free to ask.
How much does a tire swap cost in Calgary?
Ours starts at $69.99 plus tax, and the final price depends on your vehicle and whether your tires are already on their own rims. Mounting tires onto a single set of rims takes more labour than swapping complete wheels. Book our seasonal maintenance package with the oil change and multi-point inspection and the swap is free. Ask about the current offer when you call.
How long does a tire swap take?
Swapping complete wheels is a fairly quick job. Taking tires off one set of rims and mounting the other set takes longer. How long you'll wait also depends on how busy the week is, and the first snowfall week is always the busiest. Call 403-454-7500 and we'll give you a time estimate for your vehicle and setup.
When should I switch to summer tires in Calgary?
When daytime temperatures stay above 7°C, usually late April or May. Snow in May happens here, so there's no prize for switching first. Don't leave it until July either. Winter tires wear quickly on warm pavement and handle worse in the heat, so every extra week of summer driving shortens their life.
Do my tires need balancing every time they're swapped?
Not always. If your tires stay mounted on their own rims, they usually hold their balance between seasons. If a tire gets dismounted and remounted on a rim, it needs to be balanced again. Either way, a vibration in the steering wheel at highway speed after a swap means something needs balancing, so tell us.
How should I store my off-season tires?
Clean them, let them dry, and keep them somewhere cool, dark and dry, away from the furnace, sunlight and electric motors that give off ozone. Tires on rims can be stacked flat or hung. Tires without rims are better standing upright. Mark each one with its position on the car so you can rotate them next season.
