Is an independent shop as good as the dealer for repairs?
For most repairs, yes. A good independent shop uses the same kind of scan tools and brand-name parts built to OEM specs, and you usually deal directly with the people doing the work. Repairs under your factory warranty or a recall still belong at the dealer. For everything else, it comes down to the shop's tools, training and honesty.
Will servicing my car at an independent shop void my warranty?
